A Self Defense Class geared towards the LGBTQIA2S+ Community & their Allies. These Hour Long Classes are Free & are Beginner Friendly. Learn to handle uncomfortable situations in a safe space.
Our classes start off with Coach Greg (he/him) having us line up, clap twice, & give a bow. We then go into our fall exercises to make sure we are practicing safety. For newcomers Coach Greg demonstrates the proper stances for falling which are really easy to learn. These exercises are great & practical given the winters here in New York. After that, we circle around & stretch which is important for any workout. While we stretch, for the new people in the class we go around & say our names & pronouns. Before the lesson truly starts Coach Greg will guide us in movement exercises to get used to the movements we do during the lesson. Then it is the main event. You will pair off & learn a beginner Jiu Jitsu technique that works in real life. These usually are reviews of past techniques before building on them with something new.
We do want everyone to be comfortable during class. So, please dress as you would for a workout. If you need to change, the studio does have communal & private gender neutral changing areas.
